This policy explains what information INQUEST collects when you use the website at playinquest.com and the game at playinquest.com/play, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We try to collect as little as possible.
What we collect
- Anonymous device ID. When you first open the game, a random identifier is generated on your device and used to sync your game progress to our server. It is not linked to your name or email.
- Game progress. Your saves (which cases you have solved, clues found, and your settings) are stored on your device and synced to our server so you can restore them.
- Usage analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used (for example, which pages are visited). This sets cookies and collects standard data such as your approximate location and device type.
- Advertising. The website shows ads through Google AdSense, and the Android app shows ads through Google AdMob. Both may use cookies or device identifiers to serve and measure ads, including personalized ads where permitted.
Cookies and advertising
Google Analytics and Google AdSense set cookies on the website. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising in your Google Ads Settings, and you can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. If you are in a region that requires it (such as the EEA or UK), you may be shown a consent choice before personalized ads are served.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your data. We use a small number of service providers to run INQUEST:
- Google, for analytics and advertising.
- Cloudflare, for hosting and storage.
Data retention and security
Saves are kept for as long as needed to provide the game. We take reasonable measures to protect the limited data we hold.
Children
INQUEST is a murder-mystery game intended for a general teen and adult audience. It is not directed at children under 13.
Your choices
- Opt out of personalized ads using the Google links above.
- Clear the game's local data from your browser or device at any time.
- Request access to or deletion of your data by contacting us (see the Contact page).
Changes
We may update this policy as the game evolves. The date at the top reflects the latest version.
