Terms of Service

Last updated: 9 September 2026

These terms govern your use of PLAY INQUEST, the website at playinquest.com and the game at playinquest.com/play. By opening or playing PLAY INQUEST, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the game.

The service

PLAY INQUEST is a murder-mystery detective game that runs in a web browser, with an Android build in progress. You read case files, investigate scenes, interrogate suspects, and make a single, final accusation per case. Today's Daily Dossier and the tutorial are free without an account. Signed-in detectives can access the handcrafted casebook, the latest seven daily cases, and two-player co-op. Premium features are described below.

Accounts

You can play anonymously, identified only by a random device ID, or sign in with a Google account to sync your progress across devices and appear on the leaderboard under a detective alias. You are responsible for keeping access to your Google account secure; we do not have a separate PLAY INQUEST password to protect.

Premium

Premium is normally priced at $5 for 30 days or $5 per month. Both options are currently offered at an 80% discount: $1 for 30 days or $1 per month. The current price and billing interval are shown before checkout. Premium adds replays, up to one year of daily cases, random unplayed-case challenges, and removes ads. Premium revenue helps cover server bills and ongoing development. Replays do not replace the first result recorded for a case. Recurring payments continue until cancelled. You can cancel in Settings either immediately or at the next billing date. See theRefund Policy for billing, cancellation, and refund help.

Acceptable use

Play fair. Do not attempt to disrupt the service, reverse engineer the game to extract case solutions for redistribution, abuse the co-op or leaderboard systems (for example, submitting false solve times), or use PLAY INQUEST for anything unlawful. We may suspend access for accounts or devices that abuse the service.

Third-party services

PLAY INQUEST runs on a small number of third-party services: Cloudflare for hosting and the backend, Google for Sign-In and analytics, and Dodo Payments for Premium checkouts. Using PLAY INQUEST means your traffic and, if you sign in or make a payment, your account data pass through these providers under their own terms and privacy policies as well as ours. See ourPrivacy Policy for the specifics of what each one sees.

Content and ownership

The case files, artwork, and all other content in PLAY INQUEST belong to PLAY INQUEST and are not licensed for reuse, resale, or redistribution. Case content is original and fictional; where a case draws on the shape of a real-world true-crime story or a classic mystery-fiction convention, it is a work of fiction inspired by that tradition, not a factual retelling.

No warranty

PLAY INQUEST is provided "as is". We work to keep cases solvable and the service available, but we do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, PLAY INQUEST and its creator are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, if any.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the game evolves. The date at the top reflects the latest version. Continuing to use PLAY INQUEST after a change means you accept the updated terms.
