Terms of Service

Last updated: 12 July 2026

These terms govern your use of INQUEST, the website at playinquest.com and the game at playinquest.com/play. By opening or playing INQUEST, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the game.

The service

INQUEST is a murder-mystery detective game that runs in a web browser, with an Android build in progress. You read case files, investigate scenes, interrogate suspects, and make a single, final accusation per case. The entire game, the hand-crafted casebook, the Daily Dossier, and two-player co-op, is free to play.

Accounts

You can play anonymously, identified only by a random device ID, or sign in with a Google account to sync your progress across devices and appear on the leaderboard under a detective alias. You are responsible for keeping access to your Google account secure; we do not have a separate INQUEST password to protect.

Acceptable use

Play fair. Do not attempt to disrupt the service, reverse engineer the game to extract case solutions for redistribution, abuse the co-op or leaderboard systems (for example, submitting false solve times), or use INQUEST for anything unlawful. We may suspend access for accounts or devices that abuse the service.

Content and ownership

The case files, artwork, and all other content in INQUEST belong to INQUEST and are not licensed for reuse, resale, or redistribution. Case content is original and fictional; where a case draws on the shape of a real-world true-crime story or a classic mystery-fiction convention, it is a work of fiction inspired by that tradition, not a factual retelling.

No warranty

INQUEST is provided "as is". We work to keep cases solvable and the service available, but we do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, INQUEST and its creator are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, if any.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the game evolves. The date at the top reflects the latest version. Continuing to use INQUEST after a change means you accept the updated terms.
